About the event
We would like to state that you do not need to have any previous dance background to participate in this workshop series, in which we will examine early jazz music and social jazz dances within their historical and socio-cultural framework and share both theoretical and practical information.
1 week
- History of Jazz & Dance presentation
- Interactive communication platform
- Introduction to social jazz dances
2 weeks
- 1920s & Charleston (Roaring 20s & Charleston)
- 1920s in America and Turkey, music, dance, entertainment culture,
- Teaching Charleston basic dance steps and figures
Three weeks
- 1930s & Harlem Renaissance
- Reaching the masses of swing music, socio-cultural and political interactions, teaching the basic steps and figures of original swing dance (Lindy Hop).
Week 4
- 1940s & Today Lindy Hop
- Lindy Hop in Hollywood and exemplary scenes, World War II. With the World War II, swing music lost its popularity, spreading to different geographies with individual efforts in the 1980s and increasing today.
- Swing & Lindy Hop, a short dance routine tutorial (solo or partner participation possible)
